Consolidation 2-8-0

This locomotive is a Martin Evans design built from the book "Caribou." I added the front pony truck which was shown as an option. This version is called "Buffalo" in the book. It is equipped with Baker valve gear and piston valves. The large port areas to and from the cylinders make this a speedy engine even with the small drivers. It has quite a bit of pulling power and it was able to pull a train with nine adults at the local track. It's an easy steamer as it has a copper boiler and a large grate area. I originaly built the boiler with a stainless steel outer wrapper, but that didn't work out too well. Adhesion of the silver solder to the outer shell was poor and leaks developed after numerous heat cycles.
