1/5 scale Gnome 100 HP

The Gnome was built from drawings purchased from the late Les Chenery. I made the pattern for the crankcase and had it cast by an acqaintance  I met at a Live Steam gathering. Most of the rest of the engine was machined from leaded steel. The oil pump is of my own design and pumps in one drop of castor oil for every 25 rotations of the engine. It is similar to the oscillating cylinder pumps used on most Live Steam locomotives but instead of a ratchet drive incorporates a worm and wheel to drive the mechanism. Ignition was originally with conventional points, but that was later replaced with my usual Hall effect system. After priming, one or two flips of the prop usually has it off and running. It has been extremely reliable with only a couple of minor glitches over the years.
